Carproof (now CARFAX Canada) is a automotive data company, specializing in showcasing consumers and dealers a car’s accident and damage history. The Vehicle History Report (VHR) is the core part of the business where a vehicle’s history like accidents, service data, recall information, and others are showcased. I worked at Carproof as a Multimedia Designer, during my time there I helped to design products that were used exclusively by car dealerships. This included the official **Carproof Mobile App** for dealers. On the consumer side I helped create the user experience for a consumer buying a Carproof Report as well as the **recall information tool**, the **flood damage detecto**r, and the **VIN Decoder.**
visit live site →This app was used exclusively by car dealers who would quickly access their cars histories. I was in charge of designing the layout as well as the user experience for the app. The app was designed to be easy to use and push the user towards their main tasks which was scanning a vehicle’s VIN, and viewing that vehicle’s records whether it was a history report, a valuation report or a lien report.
TrueRetailSold was a product that was fully integrated into the app. It told the dealer what they would expect to make on a vehicle selling it for a certain price based on it’s history data. The user could even click to see comparable cars to see if they were pricing their’s correctly.
From the consumer side the major user experience task was redesigning the ordering flow, which was extremely clunky and had a very high dropoff rate. Below you can see a comparison of original order page and the updated one. I also made it mobile friendly and with our brand at the time.
Another product was the VIN Decoder. This tool was free and meant for a user to input their VIN and find out information without actually paying for a history report. It was designed to be simple, straight to the point, and be used on any screen size. Once decode was finished it’d bring the user to an upsell page telling them that there are records on their vehicle and a link to the order page to get their full history.
Finally I also created new designs for some of our other tools like the recall information tool and the flood damage tool. Our home page was also updated by me during this time, and you can see by the comparison of the old and new below.
